The Mayor’s Funfair

On Saturday 28 August, volunteers and staff from the Community ConneX and Harrow Mencap team had a great time engaging with local people at the Mayor’s Funfair. The event took place at Harrow Recreation Ground and was organised by the Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Ghazanfar Ali, his wife the Mayoress and their team, to raise funds for the Mayor’s two chosen charities, us and the Harrow Association for Disabled People (HAD).

The event took place at Harrow Recreation Ground and was attended by a variety of organisations and businesses such as the Harrow Rotary Club and London’s Community Kitchen, as well as food stalls serving delicious Jerk Chicken, Caribbean curry, and various South Asian delights.

The Mayor, our CEO Deven Pillay, and Bill Phillips from HAD gave speeches about the role our different organisations play in supporting the wider community.

We were also excited to have our own stall at the event, and to welcome local residents and tell them about the lifechanging work we do in and around Harrow. Attendees also enjoyed playing our fundraising games including the Rubik’s Cube Challenge, Guess how many Sweets in the Jar, and Beat the Granny!

We were so impressed to see how quickly some of Harrow’s younger residents were able to complete the Rubik’s Cube. One young lady completed the puzzle in just 1 minute and 14 seconds!

After the festival, we also enjoyed welcoming Jonathan at our Harrow head office to collect his prize as winner of our Guess how many Sweets in the Jar game. There were 404 sweets in total!

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended and supported our charity, and to the Mayor, the Mayoress and their colleagues who made the event possible.
