Our Learning disability nurses not hearses campaign to raise awareness about the lack of Learning Disability Nurses in NHS posts across the UK has been recognised by Parliament.

Parliament praised our campaign by awarding us with the Digital Campaign of the Year Prize at the Your UK Parliament Awards 2021.

After we received the trophy from parliament, our self-advocate group celebrated over Zoom.

Our Trustee David House, Engagement Manager Jordan, came together for a photo of the trophy with Brendan who represented the self-advocate group.

Why we won the award

Our campaign was awarded because of our digital activities.

One of our digital actions was holding Zoom drop-in sessions with 19 parliamentarians.

During the sessions, self-advocates, and carers shared their stories and experiences of the healthcare system with the MPs and peers and argued their case for why the NHS needs to put more learning disability nurses in posts.

The parliamentarians were:

The parliamentarians were members of the Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat and Scottish National Parties.

They came from England, Scotland and Wales.

We also got more MPs to support our Early Day Motion
