We believe people with learning disabilities should be able to live their life in the way they choose, just like anyone else.  We aim to provide outstanding services that help and inspire people to have a great life, develop friendships and relationships, and become active members of their communities.

Harrow Mencap's day opportunity services are incredibly popular and have grown significantly over recent years.  We now have three vibrant day services each with their own unique identity.

Pinner Green

Personalised community based day opportunities for adults and young people with learning disabilities, 18-30 years. Activities include life skills, sports, dance, drama, music, drama, sailing, volunteering, leisure and social activiites These services provide a range of day opportunities for adults and young people with learning disabilities.  We work on person centred principles and user involvement. In this way people who use services are supported to have a say in the running of their services. The very first thing you’ll notice at the centres is the warm and friendly welcome you’ll receive. Activities our members have said they particularly enjoy taking part in include volunteering at Dog's Trust, swimming, walking groups, cookery, drama, driving range, discussion groups, attending community events, meals out, relaxation, music and movement.

A great place to make new friends, an environment to learn and develop while having fun.

Harrow Activity Centre

Providing a variety of meaningful activities for adults with learning disabilities.  HAC support those aged 25 and upwards.  All our day opportunities have created extensive networks and spend a lot of time within the local community.

There is also a strong focus on health and wellbeing as well as supporting members to gain valuable life skills and the importance of being able to speak up for themselves.

Cedars Community Centre

Our newest day opportunities service is currently located within the vibrant Cedars Community centre based in Harrow Weald. The service was started in April 2016. The members have been very much involved in the planning and shaping of the service.

The aims of the service are

  • Increasing opportunities by promote friendship and building useful support and social networks
  • To play an active role and be involved within the local community
  • Establish an innovative approach in developing new skills through a variety of workshops, enterprise, leadership opportunities and volunteering
  • To ensure health and wellbeing are a key focus of the service

We started this service initially for around 30 individuals as their previous day service with a different provider closed. The feedback has be great so far and we welcome more people to come along and join us. The members are a truly vibrant bunch and really have enjoyed getting involved and helping us to shape this new service.
