Dear friends,

At Harrow Mencap, we are pleased that we have been able to continue to offer support to individuals and families throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

Since the beginning, we have tried our best to provide clients with as much face-to-face support both at our service hubs, at home and at other settings.

On some occasions, this has meant adjusting our offer. Staff have provided clients and others with one-to-one home visits and outdoor activities in situations where the usual community spaces have been unavailable, or when clients or their families have been anxious about visiting our centres.

Where it has not been possible to offer face-to-face support, our staff have offered digital solutions for people with varying levels of technical ability including community phone-in sessions, video conference call, online activities and support groups, as well as guided activity videos that are accessible 24 hours a day.

We were able to achieve this from the very start of the lockdown period last March. We are confident in our ability to continue supporting clients, families, carers, and the wider community throughout the upcoming lockdown from 5 November as before.

Our services and community activities are being run in accordance with the latest government guidelines, including key exemptions for essential service providers.

Some of these exemptions are:

  • Leaving the house to provide care for vulnerable people, or as a volunteer.
  • The use of venues (including community centres) for activities such as childcare and formally organised groups providing mutual aid, therapy, or any other form of support.
  • The use of places of worship to support group activities.
  • Essential group activities can host up to 15 participants.

In addition, we have also prepared a video, as an example, to show you the precautions our service teams are taking to provide safe, quality, and enjoyable support.

You can watch the video below:

If you or your family member is a client or attends a service or activity, and you have any questions about what we can offer you or your loved one, including personalised options, please contact the manager of the service team that usually supports or engages with you.

Yours sincerely,

Harrow Mencap
