Six of our members made speeches at a Speaking Out Forum event at the Speaker’s House in Parliament last November. We planned the event to build members’ confidence in public speaking and engaging with audiences. We arranged the project jointly with two other organisations Langdon and Speaking Out.

Harrow Mencap members spoke about different subjects such as employment, Chelsea Football Club, transport difficulties and Williams syndrome. Our members made their speeches after over a year of hard work and preparation with our Cedars and Skill Up teams.

Members also took part in workshops on pronunciation, warrior poses, speech-writing and public speaking with Simone from Speaking Out every other Monday.

Our members are proud of their achievements at the Speaking Out Forum and feel more confident in speaking to groups and expressing themselves.

Both staff and members are hoping to arrange another Speaking Out Forum in 2019 after this year’s success.
