News & Events News Half marathon runner raises £1000 for Harrow Mencap A local half marathon runner has raised over £1000 for Harrow Mencap. Stefano Perdoni was inspired to run the Harrow Half Marathon to raise money for Harrow Mencap after he discovered that Brendan, one of our ambassadors had been abused by a group of teenage boys while out collecting in the local community. Stefano told Harrow Mencap: I was inspired to raise money after reading an article that had been posted on the Harrow online Facebook group which showed a photo of Brendan with the security guards of St. George’s. After reading the article I discovered that he had been subjected to verbal abuse from some very inconsiderate individuals and that the St George’s security guards stepped in to help. I live and work in Harrow and often see Brendan out and about. I recognised him instantly when the article was posted online. (Brendan pictured with the security guards at St George’s Shopping Centre) The article explained that he is a Harrow Mencap volunteer which is why I chose this charity. I wanted to turn this negative incident into something positive by raising some money for an amazing cause. I decided to raise money by running the Harrow half marathon which I ran on Sunday 15th September 2019. I set up a just giving page (www.justgiving.com/fundraising/stef-perdoni) and surpassed my initial target of £500. The current total raised is £938 with £165 of gift aid which I am over the moon about. We are incredibly grateful to Stefano for his outstanding efforts in supporting Harrow Mencap and we hope to continue our relationship with him in future.
