Harrow Mencap enjoyed welcoming Greenpeace campaigner Lisa Thomson who spoke on climate change at one of Connecting Communities’ regular Tuesday lunch events at St John’s on 26th November.

We watched two short, clear and entertaining videos about climate change and palm oil and how this leads to the destruction of the rainforest and harm to the orangutans.

Participants especially appreciated learning different facts about the rainforest and its many inhabitants.

Lisa then suggested ways that we can help the planet such as avoiding palm oil products and eating less meat, recycling and taking more sustainable transport.

Jeremy Child, The Connecting Communities and Fundraising Manager, said:

The whole audience learnt some really constructive points about day to day [environmental] issues. If all 30 people plus present at meeting took just one piece of advice, it will help us all to save the planet.
