This year for Carers Week (8-14 June, 2020), we want to make sure that local carers are aware of all the support we can offer them.

With this in mind, we have created a directory listing various support available to carers at Harrow Mencap.

We are still running a variety of services such as support groups, health and wellbeing activities, information and advice, and other opportunities while keeping to government guidelines around social distancing and the coronavirus.

Currently these services include:

1. Weekly mindfulness sessions (see the flyer below for details)

2. Elevate Carers Group

Our Elevate Carers Group is there to support people who care for somebody with a learning disability, physical disability, mental health condition, long term illness or anybody else.

The group provides an opportunity for carers to learn to speak out and be heard, break the isolation, have fun, learn who they are outside of the caring role, gain skills and feel empowered.

The group are currently conducting their meetings online to ensure social distancing.

If you would like to join these sessions, please contact Hannah Roques on 07951 324 730 / [email protected] or Jordan Creed on 07496 494379 / [email protected].

3. Regular community phone-in sessions

Carers are welcome to join our Connecting Communities phone-ins. The telephone events offer people an opportunity to engage with others, learn and enjoy a variety of entertainment.

So far the sessions have included discussions with local MPs and councillors, quizzes, musical performances, historical talks and casual chats.

Sessions are currently available 4 days a week.

If you would like to take part in our Connecting Communities phone-in events, please contact Jeremy Child on 07734 955115 or [email protected]
