The success of Harrow Mencap’s Community Fundraising has been largely due to our amazing volunteers. We are grateful for the time they give anything from 1 hour to several days a week. Many volunteers tell us how volunteering for Harrow Mencap has changed their lives

Here’s David’s story

“I started as a volunteer on 23rd May 2014, I found out about it from another volunteer Bill, he introduced me to Jeremy”. Since then David has become an integral part of the team and now also works part time as a Fundraising Assistant   “I help out with the collections, go round to pubs and restaurants to ask if they can sell raffle tickets” Last week he ran a stall at Harrow College’s Diversity event “We managed to find a few more volunteers”

David used to work for Sainsburys, but had to finish work due to ill health , David says “I would be bored at home if I didn't volunteer for Harrow Mencap., it gets me out of the house more , I meet new people and have made lots of new friends” David regularly goes on holiday now with Jeremy and the friends he has made in the Fundraising Team. David has made a huge contribution and single handed has got new businesses in Hillingdon involved. When asked what he would tell people thinking about becoming a volunteer David says

“It’s really good if you can spare a couple of hours, you’ll meet lots of new people. Harrow Mencap are the best as we work together with people with learning disabilities”
