Health Advocacy Project
Harrow Mencap runs a health advocacy service for people with learning disabilities.
What is the aim of the project?
The aim is to support people who have a learning disability in Harrow to
- Access health services
- Help individuals to contribute to future planning and development of services
- Developing, understanding of services
- Provide health education in a way which can be easily understood and accessed.
This will be done by:
- Providing clear information and support to service users and parents/relatives by providing clear information
- Health education programmes such as engaging people to sign up to a programme i.e. healthy eating, smoking, weight loss, alcohol, flu etc
- User Friendly Information
- Work with parents , users, carers and professionals to develop user friendly fact sheets
- Support to access services
- Local research - understanding local need
- Health Advocacy will provide the following:
i) One to one support for people with learning disabilities who are dealing with a particular issue
ii) Supporting self-advocacy groups for people with learning disabilities in Harrow.
iii) Support for parents and carers of people with learning disabilities in Harrow.
